Lead Like Jesus, Not Like the World

Let’s be honest… leadership in marriage can feel like a weight. The world tells husbands that being a leader means being in charge, having it all together, or never showing weakness. But that’s not the picture God paints.

In Ephesians 5, Paul writes that husbands are to love their wives as Christ loved the church. Christ didn’t lead by control. He led by humility, sacrifice, and service. He washed feet. He prayed through pain. He went first in forgiveness.

I remember a season when I thought leading meant fixing everything. Bills, stress, my wife’s worries… all of it. I tried to carry it like a soldier with a backpack full of bricks. But leadership without surrender leads to burnout, not blessing.

One night, after another exhausting day of trying to hold it all together, I sat in my car and whispered, “God, I can’t do this.” And in that quiet, I felt Him remind me: You were never meant to lead alone.

Godly leadership starts on our knees. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being present. When a husband leads with prayer, listens with patience, and loves with grace, his home becomes a reflection of heaven’s order.

So to every husband reading this: your leadership doesn’t have to be loud or flawless. It just has to look like Jesus.
