Why It’s Okay to Break

Matthew 11:28-30 | Isaiah 40:29-31 | Psalm 34:18

There’s this unspoken rule that most of us guys grow up with... be strong, hold it together, don’t let anyone see you crack.

But somewhere between work deadlines, bills, and bedtime battles, that armor starts to feel heavy. You keep pushing through, telling yourself, Just one more day, until suddenly you’re sitting in the dark wondering how you got so tired.

I had one of those nights recently. The kids were asleep, the house was finally quiet, and I just sat there, staring at the ceiling, feeling like a failure.

But then I remembered something Jesus said: “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

He didn’t say, “Come to Me once you’ve figured it all out.” He said, “Come now.” Weak. Worn out. Empty handed.

It hit me... maybe being a strong dad doesn’t mean holding everything together. Maybe it means having the courage to admit when you can’t. Maybe real strength looks like dropping to your knees and saying, “God, I need You.”

If that’s where you are today, you’re in good company. Every great man of faith had moments where they broke before they were built.

Your kids don’t need a perfect dad. They need a present one... a dad who knows where his strength really comes from.
